THEM is a new play at La Mama’s Courthouse by playwright, poet and activist Samah Sabawi, writer of the award-winning Tales of a City by the Sea.
Samah’s writing is concerned with displacement, conflict and diaspora. THEM is no different as it follows the lives of five young people caught in an unnamed war zone, a deliberate choice by Samah to elevate an understanding of shared experience while examining more carefully a range of differing perspectives. ‘The more non-specific we make a story the more universal it becomes,’ she says, and by opening this up for interpretation Samah strengthens this notion to connect at the human level the confronting reality of displacement.
THEM is now showing at La Mama Courthouse Theatre in a sold-out season from Wednesday 29 May to Sunday 9 June 2019. There is a possibility you can still get tickets by showing up at the box office before the show (in the hope of empty seats).
